A Little Background

This is my serious photo.

I graduated from Princeton and Columbia with degrees in English and Comparative Literature. But then I decided to be an actress and performed on stage and screen in New York and regionally. My dad wonders why he spent so much on my education.

This is what I look like usually.

It turns out you can never be smart enough or good enough. My husband, children, parents, brother, sister-in-law, nieces and friends assure me that I’m good enough for them. But I know better. There’s some unattainable standard I’m not reaching — so I get migraines.

This picture has been touched up.

Unlike this photo, which obscures most of my wrinkles and blemishes, my writing on this Substack doesn’t. The essays will make you laugh — perhaps you’ll recognize your own stories — but ultimately, they’ll reveal the source of my hope. Read how flaws are being fixed, pride is humbled, anxiety turns to freedom, tragic stories develop happy endings.

Deus ex libris!
